The project
Design and construction of IMCD Italia’s new Research & Development laboratories at its branch office in Via Moneta, Milan.
The project involved the regeneration of a former industrial site and the conversion of approximately 600 square metres into highly specialised laboratory spaces dedicated to application development and experimentation.
The new areas are divided into:
- Coating Laboratories
- Laboratories for the study of adhesive products
- Laboratories for building materials
Project completed in 2023.
The customer
IMCD Italia is part of an international group that is a leader in the distribution and formulation of specialty chemicals and high-performance ingredients.
The company acts as a technical partner to numerous industrial sectors, supporting clients in the development of innovative solutions through testing, application and research activities.
Before the project: the client’s requirements
IMCD Italia needed new premises dedicated to Research & Development, capable of supporting advanced application work and testing on various types of materials.
The main challenge was to:
- to redevelop a former industrial site by converting it into laboratory facilities;
- create distinct yet integrated environments for different lines of research;
- ensure appropriate technical and safety standards;
- to create functional, flexible spaces that reflect the company’s technical identity.
It was essential to transform an existing industrial building into a modern, high-performance technological facility.
Our approach: the solution
Labs2Life oversaw the entire design and construction process, adopting an approach focused on the seamless integration of layout, systems and laboratory processes.
The main activities included:
- Analysis of application requirements for each sector (coatings, adhesives, building materials)
- Design of the functional layout covering an area of approximately 600 square metres
- Redevelopment of the industrial property
- Design and upgrading of technical systems to support R&D activities
- Coordination of construction work through to the handover of the spaces, ready for use
Each laboratory has been designed to ensure operational efficiency, safety and maximum flexibility for testing and formulation.
