The project<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Design and consultancy services for the creation of a diagnostic laboratory within the historic Palazzo Landriani, at 25 Via Borgonuovo in Milan.<\/p>\n

The project involves the integration of state-of-the-art technologies into a Renaissance architectural setting of immense historical value, which is protected by the Superintendency of Fine Arts.<\/p>\n

Project in collaboration with R4M Engineering.<\/p>\n

The customer<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Lombard Institute Academy of Sciences and Letters, founded in 1797, is a historic institution that promotes scientific, literary and cultural knowledge, fostering dialogue between disciplines and contributing to the enhancement of the cultural and intellectual heritage of Lombardy and Italy.<\/p>\n

As the organiser and promoter of the initiative, the Institute has decided to set up a laboratory dedicated to diagnostic testing for the conservation of works of art, with a particular focus on antique books.<\/p>\n

Before the project: the client\u2019s requirements<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The client wished to create a highly specialised scientific laboratory within a building of great historical and artistic value, which had not originally been designed to house technical and scientific activities.<\/p>\n

The main challenge lay in the need to integrate systems, equipment and advanced technologies whilst complying with the architectural and conservation constraints imposed by the listing of the building.<\/p>\n

It was therefore essential to develop a solution capable of combining:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • the technical and functional requirements of a diagnostic laboratory;<\/li>\n
  • the preservation and enhancement of the historic building;<\/li>\n
  • regulatory and licensing compliance within a restricted framework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Our approach: the solution<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Our project is divided into several operational phases:<\/p>\n

    • Preliminary analysis of architectural and regulatory constraints, in coordination with the relevant conservation authorities<\/li>\n
    • Space planning and definition of the laboratory\u2019s functional layout<\/li>\n
    • Consultancy on systems and technology integration, offering minimally invasive and fully reversible solutions<\/li>\n
    • Support in selecting and setting up technical and scientific equipment for assessing the state of conservation of works of art, particularly antique books<\/li>\n
    • Technical coordination with the professionals involved to ensure consistency between scientific requirements and respect for the historic site<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      The result is a workshop designed to bridge the gap between the past and the future: a space where technological innovation is harnessed to support the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
